Hi, I’m Lauren, the creator behind Reality in Reverie and the face behind the Instagram handle @theiramericanmum. I’m an American expat who’s been living in England for the past six years, navigating the beautiful (and sometimes messy) adventure of motherhood abroad, now that I’m raising two young kids in a country I didn’t grow up in.
When I first moved to the UK, I had no idea how much my life would change. I went from learning how to drive on the “wrong” side of the road and adjusting to the British way of doing things, to embracing motherhood in a whole new culture. It hasn’t always been easy—raising kids without a village to lean on, balancing work from home, and figuring out this whole “expat life” thing—but I’ve learned that with the challenges come the most beautiful rewards.
My blog is a place where I share the realness of expat life, motherhood, and everything in between. I don’t pretend to have it all figured out (because who really does?), but I do believe in making life feel a little more magical in the everyday moments.
