I’m Obsessed with HelloFresh

Growing up, there was always a home cooked meal from scratch made and put on the table for dinner.  My mom is an awesome cook, and being able to follow in her footsteps in that regard has always been something I’ve wanted to accomplish.

Easier said than done, let me tell ya.

Holding down a full time job, and getting home at 6:00 every night, sometimes the last thing I want to do is try and figure out what to cook, stand there for an hour cooking, etc.  Plus, I’m not very good at meal prep or shopping for ingredients (have you ever been to Sainsbury’s on a Sunday?!).  I realize that I might sound just a *bit* ridiculous, given the fact that it’s just Steve and I that I’m cooking for.  But still, it really is hard, and I’m sure many of you will agree!

So I figured I would give HelloFresh a try.  It’s a meal subscription box that is sent to your house weekly; you choose the amount of meals you want, as well as the recipes and they’ll send everything needed right to your door.

I’ve been using HelloFresh for a few weeks now, and I can honestly say that it has made cooking through the week ten times easier for me.  We get three meals for two people delivered each week; which is more than enough for the two of us, as we tend to pick up at least one or two “easy meals” that Steve can cook, and takeaways on the weekends (I know, we’re awful).

There is a lot to like about HelloFresh.  For one, it has given me the chance to try out new dishes that I never would have tried before (no matter how many of them I have pinned to Pinterest).  Some of the dishes that I’ve made include:

Spanish-Style Rice with Chicken and Chorizo

Tuscan Style Sausage with Cavolo Nero Colcannon & Balsamic Onion Gravy

Orzo Risotto

Meatball Wraps

Asian Pork & Rice

The meals come with recipe cards with instructions that are SO EASY to follow. Seriously, they even have pictures, so there’s no confusion as what needs to be done. It really cannot get easier than that. There’s also different types of recipes, depending on what you’re looking for – vegan, gluten-free, rapid recipes, etc.

The other thing that I love about HelloFresh is that they give you the exact amount of ingredients to use for each recipe. I’m sure the following scenario sounds familiar: you find a great recipe you want to try, go the store and buy all the ingredients. You then make the meal, and realize you have all this shit left over that you aren’t going to use any time soon. It can be really wasteful sometimes, and I can’t tell you how much money I’ve literally thrown away in ingredients that went to waste.

The boxes work out to £10 per meal, which I don’t think is too bad. We did the math and between that and our weekly shop, we’re averaging about the same amount spent weekly on food as before (sometimes less!). So it’s definitely worth the money for the convenience, in my opinion!

I definitely recommend at least giving it a try for a week if you’re in a bit of a cooking rut, want to try something new, etc.

Happy cooking!
