There’s nothing like a little getaway to recharge you, even if it’s only for one night.  For my birthday, my mom purchased a night’s stay for us in Canary Wharf. I think something like that is such a thoughtful gift.  Steve and I love taking little weekend trips here and there, and even if it’s only one night it’s still amazing. The only downside is that it is EXTREMELY difficult for me to even attempt to pack light, especially for an overnight stay.  I always overpack, because I feel like I have to be prepared for every possibility. That being said, I have gotten somewhat better at it.

My overnight travel fashion staples essentials are pretty standard, to be honest.

CLOTHES & SHOES

Obviously this varies depending on where we’re going and for how long.  I usually always bring one pair of blue jeans and one pair of black (for options, duh), one top, a sweater/jacket (depending on the weather), and pajamas.  Oh, and a change of underwear, of course. Shoes vary depending on the situation, but usually include my trainers because we tend to do a lot of walking wherever we go.

MAKEUP BAG

Obviously the most important part of ANY girl’s overnight bag, in my opinion.  I cannot go anywhere without my makeup. Like, all of it. Skinnydip London gifted me with the cutest makeup bag ever, and I was so excited that it came literally the day before we went away that I wasted absolutely no time stuffing all my makeup essentials in it.  It’s the perfect size – big enough to cram literally all your favorite beauty products in (including this adorable mini mirror), and compact enough to throw in your overnight bag and head on your way.

TOILETRIES

In addition to my makeup bag and the essential toothbrush and toothpaste, I also bring my own shampoo and conditioner (and dry shampoo).  Most hotels tend to have horrible shampoo and conditioner and I can’t stand the way it makes my hair feel. So I tend to bring my own. I have an entire bag full of various minis in our bathroom that we’ve “collected” from all of our trips so we always have everything we need.  I also bring practically all of my skincare products – so face wash, toner, serum (my favorite is The Ordinary HA 2% + B5), day cream and night cream. Also can’t forget the grooming products.  Skinnydip London also gave me this mani set, which is perfect because my husband is always chucking a random pair of tweezers and nail clippers in the bag anywhere we go.  Now I have a travel set with all the essentials so I don’t have to worry about losing a pair of clippers…again. He’ll get over the fact that it’s pink and covered in sparkles, I’m sure.

MISCELLANEOUS

A few other bits and bobs that I usually bring are my phone charger, and a straightener (I love the ghd ones).  I try to keep the random shit to a minimum so as not to take up space in my bag and weigh things down even more.

That’s probably as basic as I am ever going to get when packing for an overnight stay somewhere.

What’s in your overnight bag?

xx Lauren
