Putting together baby’s nursery is one of the most exciting parts of pregnancy. Painting the walls, putting together a cot, and folding and putting away the teeny tiny little clothes; it’s when it really starts to sink in that soon you will be celebrating the arrival of your baby. Creating a calm nursery space is important for baby, and it’s also important for you. You’ll be spending just as much time in there, feeding, changing, and cuddling your new bundle of joy that it’s important to make it comfortable for baby AND you!
The best place to start in creating the nursery is to sort out the furniture first. Those are the big purchases that will shape how you set out and eventually decorate your little one’s space. Of course, you want the pieces to be aesthetically pleasing, but you also need to be mindful of practicality as well. Choose pieces that not only look good, but will be functional!
The Tutti Bambini Rio Cot Bed is a great option when looking for a modern and functional cot. It’s suitable from birth to 6 years, has three mattress heights, and teething rails (thank goodness for those rails!). It also has a cot top changer if you don’t have a changing unit. We bought this for Aidan when we transitioned him from a side-sleeping crib, and honestly couldn’t be more pleased with it. What’s absolutely great about it is that it easily converts from a cot to a junior bed. It gives me peace of mind knowing that he has a comfortable bed that will grow with him through the years.
Storage is key in the nursery as well, so you will definitely need a chest of drawers. My advice is to purchase a changing unit, like the Obaby Maya Changing Unit. Purchase a foam changing mat to place on top of the unit, put together a nappy caddy full of the essentials (nappies, wipes, cream, etc.), and place a nappy bin on the side of the unit. By creating a changing station like this, you will have everything right at hand to make changes a breeze. It also helps to have baby’s clothes right at hand in the unit for when the inevitable blowout happens. If you find you still need more storage space, the Obaby Maya Double Wadrobe is a great option.
Those are the major purchases sorted; now for the fun part…decorating! You’ll want to stick to soft colours and patterns for the walls. Creamy neutrals and soft shades such as light blue or green will create a very calming atmosphere. Bold colours, if wanted, should be kept to a minimum, such as in room accents. It’s very popular now to create a gender neutral nursery, regardless of whether or not you know what you’re having. It’s also practical if you choose to have more children – you don’t have to redo everything completely then!
Nurseries should be cosy. Placing a soft rug in a neutral shade on the floor will make the room extra inviting. They’re also great for playtime on the floor, like in a play gym or tummy time. You’ll also want something to sit in, like a comfortable rocking chair, to nurse and cuddle your little one or to watch them as they happily play on the floor.
Finish off your baby’s room by adding personal touches, like a mobile for their cot, or some sweet wall décor. Add shelves to place mementos, like their framed sonogram picture, first teddy bear, or a memory keepsake box. The sky really is the limit when it comes to decorating a nursery.
There are so many great online shops like Bambini & Bo, to help you with all of your nursery needs. They carry many of the major popular baby brands out there and have a great range of products to choose from to help you create the perfect nursery for your little one.
