One of the things that I’ve been hearing the most throughout my pregnancy is “Oooh, enjoy your sleep now before the baby comes!”? I swear, hearing that is getting as old as the lack of sleep that I am experiencing. Almost. Coming into my second trimester, the lack of sleep has hit hard. While some of it is down to just general anxiety about giving birth, most of it is due to the inevitable back pain that comes with the second trimester. When Kally Sleep reached out and asked if I wanted to give their Body Pillow a try, I almost jumped at the opportunity. I say “almost” because, ya know, back pain.
The pillow is designed with a curve to accommodate and support your growing bump, and is made of firm hollowfibre material that offers optimal support, yet molds to your body shape.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much of a difference from the standard pillow I’ve been using to shove between my legs. I was also worried about the size of the pillow, and it irritating Steve while he tried to sleep (I know, look how much of a caring wife I am!). The Kally body pillow definitely has made a massive difference in being able to get to sleep comfortably. It’s large enough to give me the support that I need, and yet still compact enough where it doesn’t nudge Steve in the middle of the night and wake him up. You can also purchase a jersey pillowcase for it that is soooo soft. Snuggling up with this pillow at night is seriously a dream!

I’ve been using the pillow for a couple of weeks now, and while it’s not been a miracle worker, I’m pretty happy with it so far! The back pain that I experience at night alternates between my upper back and lower back, depending on how I’m laying, I guess. I tend to sleep a bit weird, with my head and neck bent at an angle, half off the pillow, etc. With this body pillow, I’ve been able to keep my body aligned more properly which has definitely made a difference in the amount of pain I’ve felt.
I’ve also been feeling more and more pain in my hips at night, to the point where I have to get up and walk around to feel a bit of relief. The body pillow has been able to reduce the pressure on my hips enough when sleeping so that I’m not feeling it nearly as much. And to be honest, I think that’s the thing I’m most thankful for, because dealing with the back pain was one thing. But adding the hip pain in as well was torture.
The only complaints I have about the body pillow are with the pillow case. Yes, it’s very good quality, easily washable, etc. But I find that it stretches out a bit after a few uses. I find myself pulling at it a bit sometimes to make it fit properly. Also, it does conform to your shape very well, but I find that where my knees rest on the pillow, it tends to flatten/lose shape just a tiny bit. It’s nothing too bad though, as fluffing it up daily seems to fix that problem. So yes, very small prices to pay for a decent night’s sleep!
Kally Sleep has loads of body pillows to choose from, so they aren’t specifically for pregnant women – you can use their pillow finder tool to help you select the best one for you. Plus they offer a 14 night sleep guarantee, so if you don’t love the pillow, you’ll get a full refund. If you suffer from back pain and are in the market for one, get your body pillow now!
