After I found out I was pregnant, naturally the first thing I did was go online and order a shitload of pregnancy/maternity related things. Not much, but just a few basics to help me out in the first few weeks.
The first few tests that I took were the cheap ones that cost a quid in the supermarket. I wanted to be 100% sure, so I picked up the digital Clear Blue pregnancy tests. I even sprung for the ones that tell you roughly how far along you are. Do they cost an arm and a leg? Absolutely. But you can’t put a price on peace of mind.
My morning sickness has been awful. Before I was diagnosed with HG (hyperemesis gravidarum), I picked up some Sea Bands for whenever nausea struck (lol, which was all the time). They helped take the edge off slightly, though they weren’t a miracle cure.
“How To Grow A Baby And Push It Out” By Clemmie Hooper
I’ve followed Clemmie (a trained midwife) on instagram for ages (and her husband!) and absolutely love her. Her book is such a great guide and I definitely recommend picking it up if you’re expecting!
I bought the fancy schmancy Pregnacare vitamins…and then my midwife told me they’re a waste of money. She said all you really need is Folic Acid, Vitamin D & Vitamin C. Welp. Once I run out, I do plan on just picking up just the basics! Obviously there’s no harm in taking them if that’s what you want and I’m not saying not to take them. It’s just my personal opinion.
I’m incredibly fussy when it comes to taking care of my skin (*usually – I have had my moments lately where I’ve been too run down/exhausted to care). I already have some stretch marks in some areas from weight fluctuation, etc. so I’m definitey trying to stay on top of my skincare to lessen the chance of stretch marks if I can (probably in vain, but whatever). I picked up this Cowshed Stretch Mark Oil and apply it almost every day. Not sure when you even start getting stretch marks during pregnancy, but figured there’s no harm in starting now.
What were the first things you bought when you found out you were pregnant?
