Holiday In Spain Pt. II: Cordoba

After our time in beautiful Granada was up, we continued our journey to our next destination:  Cordoba.  We stayed there one night on our way back to Seville for the final leg of our trip.  Not going to lie – I didn’t expect much from it.  We picked it mainly because it was on the way to Seville, and from pictures, it looked pretty nice, but nothing to write home about.  I can honestly say that it surprised me, and ended up being my favorite part of the trip!

We spent the day walking around the quaint streets lined with shops and tapas bars, getting drinks, and of course finding a spot to watch one of the football games (naturally).

Walking around, we came to La Mezquita (pictured above), or the Great Mosque.  Like Granada (and Seville), Cordoba was another city that was under Moorish rule for quite some time.  Fun fact:  the three cities are actually referred to as Andalucia’s “Golden Triangle”.

Like, legit, obsessed with every single street in Cordoba.  Callejas de las Flores is apparently one of the most popular tourist streets in Cordoba.  And I totally get why.  All the potted flowers and plants make it SO. INSTAGRAMMABLE.

We took a break from walking for some drinks, and yes I picked the seat right in front of the Andalusian horse so I could gawk at it every five seconds.  Gorgeous baby!

After a bit of rest, we made it to one of the main tourist attractions in the city – The Roman Bridge.  Built around the first century B.C. by the Romans (duh), it underwent several reconstructions during it’s long history.  ALSO, GAME OF THRONES WAS FILMED HERE.  Despite being such big GOT fans, we had no idea that any filming was done here (we knew that a lot was filmed in Seville).  So much to our surprise, we found out AFTER we left that this bridge is actually the Long Bridge of Volantis!

The view from it is amazing, as well.  You can see La Mezquita in the distance.  We actually loved it so much that we went back when it got darker to get more pics lolz.

After our time at the bridge, we went to dinner.  I cannot for the life of me remember the name of where we ate (which is to be said for pretty much everywhere we went because lol I clearly don’t pay attention to such things), but what I can tell you is that it was the most DELICIOUS meal of my life.  It was authentic Cordoban (is that a word?) cuisine.  Jacklyn and I both got “rabo de toro” which was oxtail stew.  And ohhhhmygod it was amazing.  It got Jacklyn’s stamp of approval, as you can tell.

After dinner, we made our way back to the bridge for some pictures before calling it a night.  I loved the lanterns that lit the way all the way across the bridge.  The bridge is also a common place for local artists to come and perform for all the people the walk by.  Serenaded by the soft music of acoustic guitars, we walked down the bridge to get some last snaps of the gorgeous view in.

In my opinion, Cordoba is the perfect place for those travelers that want to take it slow, and relax.  Because it’s not AS touristy as the two other cities, it was easier to get a more “authentic” Andalusian experience.  Everything felt like it was at a slower, more relaxed pace.  It was so easy to live like a local, if only for one day.  Since we went so hard in Granada, this stop was just what we needed.  I wish we had been able to spend more time there!

Make sure to check back in as I wrap this up with the final stop of our trip – Seville!

    • Thank you! It was so much fun and the architecture everywhere was absolutely incredible!

  • Beautiful pictures! My roommate in London was from Cordoba, and she could be biased but she said its way better than Barcelona. I’ll have to check it out next time I’m in Spain.

    • Thank you! I can’t say because I’ve never been to Barcelona, but it was absolutely wonderful! I do definitely recommend giving it a visit!

    • It was so fun! I wish we had had more time to explore Cordoba more, because it’s definitely worth more than one day! There’s so many places to travel it’s always hard to choose where to go! Hoping you have lots of adventures in your future 🙂
