Holiday In Spain Pt. I: Granada

Hey there everyone!  It’s amazing how these past two weeks with my sister flew by.  We dropped her off at the airport on Tuesday and already started missing her like crazy.  We took her to Spain for a few days, which she LOVED.  After that, we spent time exploring Cambridge and London, but unfortunately the unbearable heat wave made it hard to do a lot.  It was all still such good fun.  Now sadly, it’s back to real life and responsibilities.  Which is hard, because I’m still dreaming of Spain.

The trip was absolutely amazing!  We focused on three cities in particular in Southern Spain – Granada, Cordoba and Seville.  They’re located in Andalucia, and guys it’s amazing there.  It was absolutely beautiful.  And shockingly, the weather was much better there than here!  Probably because of the lack of humidity?  Oh, and the fact that Spain has AIR CONDITIONINGGGG probably helped too.  Oh how I missed AC.  Get ready for a doozy of a post.

We flew into Seville Airport from Stansted and immediately got our rental car (a brand spankin’ new 2018 Peugeot 308) and headed to Granada.  We chose to start with Granada and work our way back to Seville towards the end of our trip, since we were flying back from there.  Either way we were going to have a long drive, whether it be in the beginning or end, so it just made sense to get it out of the way.  It took a lot of stress off of the last day knowing that we were only 20 minutes away from the airport.

We arrived to our Airbnb pretty late, since it was a really long drive (and took forever to find the car park lolz) so the first night we just went out for a late dinner and then got some rest.

The next day we were refreshed and ready to head out to explore for a bit.  But not before snapping some pictures from the balcony of our apartment – the view was breathtaking!

In the distance, to the right, you can see the Alhambra (first pic).  And those mountain views?  Ugh, love.

The main site to see in Granada is The Alhambra.  It was originally built as a small fortress on Roman ruins, and was later turned into a palace.  Most of the architecture is influenced by the Moorish Islamic rule over Spain, with later Renaissance-style influences when Spain was united under Catholic rule.

No amount of pictures could do The Alhambra justice. (It was also difficult due to the CRAZY amount of tourists trying to get the perfect selfie literally everywhere – hence why I don’t have many…)  The amount of detail is incredible, and the entire palace screams opulence.  If you do find yourself in Granada, I highly recommend checking it out – it’s a bit pricey but so worth it!  You do have to book in advance for a specific time slot, and I recommend getting there a lot earlier than you planned, as there is A LOT to see.  We managed to see all of the palace, but weren’t able to see all of the gardens.

Stay tuned for my next post about the second stop on our itinerary – Cordoba!  Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
