Creating Aidan’s room has been the one thing that has remained a constant at the top of my to do list. It is in no way near finished, but I have got the important bits done! This includes painting it, getting his furniture put together and getting his new blinds up. To be honest, I should have listed get his new blinds up immediately after painting. Because THAT, my friends, was IMPORTANT. Anyone with babies and toddlers knows the importance of making sure the room is dark enough for sleep! And with these stunning blackout roller blinds kindly gifted by Make My Blinds, Aidan’s room has become a peaceful space for him to drift off into a (hopefully) deep sleep at bedtime.
Becoming a first time home owner has had me doing things I’ve never had to do before. These are also things that I lowkey have been dreading. Like drilling, gardening, and measuring for blinds to name a few. Make My Blinds made the process so easy from start to finish that we could not mess it up.
To be quite honest, the hardest thing about the whole process? Choosing which blinds I wanted! Before ordering any blinds, you can choose to have up to 20 free samples sent right through your letterbox. I wouldn’t say that I chose 20 but…yea, I did go a bit crazy. Aidan’s walls are painted with a gorgeous neutral color, and I knew I wanted the same color scheme for the blinds. I want his room to be a calm, serene place, but also have fun pieces here and there. I also knew that I wanted roller blinds. and that they had to be blackout fabric; so I ended up choosing the Pacifica Neutral Blackout Roller Blind, which has a lovely soft pattern to them. A bit of a statement piece, but very subtle in my opinion!
Again the process, was super easy. Once I knew which roller blinds I wanted, all I had to do was measure the window. Make My Blinds has a great instructional video on their site if you’re unsure of how to measure properly. I found it extremely helpful, as it gives you a visual of exactly how you should be measuring. After that, I simply just entered the measurements on the site, chose fabric type, etc. and placed my order. There’s no need to do any math, as they deduct length to accommodate the brackets. It took about a week and a half to two weeks to receive the blinds from then.
As for installation, I did have Steve help me. With having Aidan around all the time, it’s always quicker when the two of us team up on a project (see also: I hate drilling). Again, we followed their great how-to video when it came to the installation. All that needed to be done was mark where the brackets would go with a pencil, drill the holes, and then screw the brackets in. From there, the blind just simply pops into place. It didn’t take long at all before the blind was up! We did have a bit of an issue with the clutch and chain mechanism at first. That was quickly resolved thanks to their incredible customer service team. From start to finish they made the process so smooth.
I have to say, I’m genuinely absolutely thrilled with the blind. We’re able to open them up during the day to any height so Aidan can get lots of natural light in his room while playing, and then easily lower to cut out the light for naptimes and bedtime. The pattern and color is exactly what I was looking for and just fits in so nicely in the room. I think they’re perfect for any nursery or toddler’s room, as they are very gender neutral. And I love the fact that it’s easy clean fabric; so important with a toddler running around!
Make My Blinds has so many different great options to choose from besides roller blinds, from wooden blinds to double roller blinds. Oh, and all their blinds come with a 5 Year Guarantee…and you get free UK shipping over £179 as if all of that isn’t enough to tempt you!
