Peppermint Tea: My New Obsession

Hello guys and gals, I am back!  Sorry for the radio silence here, but I was quite sick last week.  To be honest, I’m JUST feeling like I’m getting back to my usual self.  And of course, I had no posts planned to schedule, so yea, go me.  On top of a cold that I caught from my husband (which was somehow 10x worse than his?!), I had the worst IBS flare up I’ve ever experienced..  Like literally, never experienced one so bad before.  I actually went to the doctor, thinking that I had a stomach bug or something.  But it turns out that I have, on top of IBS, very severe dyspepsia (which is basically a fancy word for indigestion LOL).  So the doctor put me on Omeprazole, which hopefully works.  If not, I’ll have to go back for an endoscopy to rule out anything worse, like stomach ulcers, etc.  So yea, fingers crossed!

In addition to the medication (which is working so far!), she gave some tips on natural remedies that might help manage my wonderful stomach issues.  And I am so thrilled that she did, because I’m all for trying to remedy things the natural way if I can.  Obviously my diet needs to change a bit, which I am working on.  But one thing that she recommended, that I’ve never thought of?  Peppermint tea.  Apparently, peppermint works wonders for digestion.  I had Steve pick up a box, and I don’t know if it’s just because of the medication, or a mixture of that and the tea, but I’m feeling so much better!

Finding out that peppermint tea is helpful for IBS made me wonder what other health benefits it has.  So I did a bit of research, and let me tell you – there’s a lot.

THE BENEFITS OF PEPPERMINT TEA

  • Promotes healthy digestion
  • Alleviates pain and discomfort associated with IBS, indigestion, constipation, etc.
  • Helps with weight loss
  • Eases nausea & vomiting (all you pregnant ladies will love this!)
  • Can help relax and induce sleep (it’s caffeine-free)
  • Can help clear up acne
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Fights bad breath (I guess this one’s kind of obvious, haha)
  • Helps ease pain such as headaches and menstrual cramps, as it’s known to relax muscles

There are so many benefits of peppermint tea, and so much information that can be found online – I found some amazing articles here, here and here for starters.

Lol, nice nail polish, Laur

There are many brands that offer peppermint tea in their tea range, but I’m quite fond of Twinings Pure Peppermint Tea.  Okay, “quite fond of” may be a bit “weak” – I highly recommend ANY kind of Twinings tea.  This isn’t a sponsored post or anything, I just genuinely think they have the best tea, but that’s just my oh-so humble opinion. 🙂

Now, I’m off to relax with a cuppa.

xx Lauren

P.S. – SOME REALLY CUTE MUGS FOR YOUR TEA!
